“Our 45th Season of Presenting The World’s Greatest Chamber Music”
“Chamber Music Monterey Bay (CMMB) is a non-profit organization that has enriched the cultural life of the community by bringing world-renowned music ensembles to the Monterey Peninsula since 1966.”
Artistic Vision
“Chamber Music Monterey Bay preserves the tradition of live classical chamber music performance and creatively explores the evolution of this art form. Chamber music is often defined as music performed by one person per part, with two or more players and usually without a conductor. CMMB focuses on the European-based tradition of chamber music composed over the past four centuries and its contemporary international expressions.”
Chamber Music Monterey Bay Presents CALEFAX REED QUINTET
Calefax Reed Quintet Musicians
Oliver Boekhoorn, Oboist
Ivar Berix, Clarinettist
Raaf Hekkema, Saxophonist
Jelte Althuis, Clarinettist
Alban Wesly, Bassoonist
Established twenty-five years ago, Calefax Reed Quintet, “are now in great demand worldwide, not least because of their unique instrumentation. The quintet performs standing up and always introduces itself and the program to the audience. Most importantly, the five musicians arrange, recompose and interpret music from eight centuries to suit their unique constellation: from early music to classical and jazz to world premières; in the hands of Calefax it all sounds fresh and new.”
What's in the name Calefax?
