NOTES: Voter turnout was 59%, with a total of 1,652 ballots cast, according to Assistant City Administrator/City Clerk Heidi Burch.
1,652 ballots cast for 59% voter turnout yields 2,800 registered voters. 69 voters did not vote for mayor and 798 votes which could have been cast for city council were not cast.

It is good to see Carmel voters turning out to vote in greater numbers than in previous elections. Certainly Adam & Jason brought energy and newness to the scene to stir the apathetic to at least vote. I hope private citizen Adam Moniz stays engaged and continues to try to make city hall more open and transparent. Jason has a chance to bring that change from the inside and I wish him well and hope he can do it.
I am sure the incumbents must be stunned at Jason Burnett's overwhelming victory. If not, they should be. Of the 1,652 voters who cast ballots, 72% of them voted for Jason. That was a very clear and resounding message the electorate delivered.
While Sue McCloud squeaked out a win, it was hardly a victory for her. And, Adam Moniz garnered more votes than either Paula or Gerard. Big strategic mistake for Gerard, Paula and Sue to run as a "team". When was the last time a slate of three candidates won in Carmel?
Clearly Jason's message resonated with the voters. He now has a mandate to follow through on what he promised them and realize his vision. He will find a way around McCloud who will probably try to control and restrict him like she did Eric Bethel and Mike Cunningham.
There is a segment of Carmel that had been disenfranchised for so long and now have representation on the Council.
The problem with the incumbents is they thought they were entitled to your vote and thus did not have to work for it. Burnett worked hard for every vote.
The winds are now blowing a different direction in Carmel.
The Carmel Pine Cone does it again. Mary Brownfield writing an editorial identified as a news story catering to the incumbents. McCloud, Rose and Hazdovac, with their incessant complaining that the campaign was horrible, intolerable and the most miserable experience of their lives, come across as insular, unsophisticated, limited, narrow, inward-looking, selfish, small-town cry babies. Hazdovac’s likening Adam Moniz to an attack dog accurately reflects her room temperature IQ. Paula, Sue and Gerard should look in the mirror. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. If you can’t take the pressure of being confronted with the facts and truths of your respective records, then you all should remove yourselves and get out of public life.
Let's not forget Jane and Stephanie now that the election is over. Their courage and persistence brought many of us to the polls and it is time to stand behind them bring to light the unlawful and disgraceful actions of the mayor and city administrator. Keep the story in the headlines and make sure that justice is served.
We will not be able to fully take our city back until justice in served in the legal matter of Jane Miller. We also need to send Sue McCloud the message that even though she was reelected by a narrow margin, we deserve better from a mayor than she ignoring, dismissing and all around shameful and disingenous comments about former city employee Stephanie Pearce and on-leave city employee Jane Miller. yes, we must keep the story in the headlines and make sure that justice is served, I agree. Hopefully, the press will step up to the plate and cover Jane Miller's upcoming trial with every available resource. This is an important story to tell and inform readers about for Carmelites and everyone in government and citizens dependent on government everywhere.
