New Pedestrian Trail Segment: Decomposed Granite, Asphalt Curb, Grapestake Fence & Landscaping
Date: 12 June 2010
ABSTRACT: The pedestrian walkway along the west side of North San Antonio Avenue between 4th Avenue and the Carmel gate to Pebble Beach is “almost finished,” according to Planning and Building Services Manager Sean Conroy, as reported in The Carmel Pine Cone. Additionally, after the conclusion of the U.S. Open Golf tournament, Pebble Beach officials and Conroy “will come up with a timeline for the rest of the beach trail work, which includes laying a boardwalk and installing a new set of stairs down from the dunes at the north end of the beach.” “That will probably be at the end of summer or early fall,” Conroy stated. Photographs depicting the pedestrian walkway showing the progression of progress are presented. Construction services by Graniterock’s Pavex Construction Division.

The pathway is great and adds considerably to walkers safety. Finally it is done with the partnership of Pebble Beach Co. Now let's get the rest of the project done with the boardwalk over the north dunes and the staircase ready to be used for access to Carmel Beach.
The city should learn from this porject and not be satified with bandaid approaches to access stairs like the bandaid repairs to10th & 12th avenues stairs. Plan and think ahead and once the storm season is over get the work and complete work before the peak tourist season between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
This pathway, along with the 4th Avenue pathway, is a vast improvement for walkers. Now all we need is the boardwalk over the north dunes, a new staircase and a pathway along North San Antonio for pedestrians walking to and from Ocean Avenue and downtown to Pebble Beach or residences north of Ocean Avenue. With parked vehicles along North San Antonio, a pathway would be much safer for walkers.
