I often visualize what Carmel would like like if the city spent money on reforestation and beautification and aesthetic enhancement of our urbanized forest.
It is apparent the city does not plant the 3 signature trees of Carmel, Monterey pine, coast live oak and Monterey cypress. It is also apparent the city cannot even plant these trees prodominantly on city property in the business district. There is an absence of trees representing all of the lifecycle stages also. Now mostly mature to old and dying trees in Carmel.
It is really sad.
Bad for photosynthesis, bad for global warming and bad for residents and visitors who remember many, many more healthy trees in Carmel years ago.
If only the trees could speak...they would speak of neglect by the city.
It is ironic private property owners do a better job of planting trees on their own lots than the city does on the public rights-of-ways, parks, etc.
