UPDATE: On Thursday, March 6, 2008, Robert Leidig made an oral presentation based on his prepared booklet. He was accompanied by his assistant, attorney Miriam Schaket of Derinda L. Messenger A Professional Corporation and architectural historian Rebecca Meta Bunse, Partner JRP Historical Consulting. During the public comment period, six individuals spoke, including Myrna Hampton of Save Our Neighborhoods Coalition, Wayne Iverson, Carol Stollery, Tracy Manning and Kent Seavey. Expressed concerns involved the “misuse of historic restoration” as justification for rezoning from medium density to high density, violations of National Park Service criteria, LCP and General Plan, the project’s incompatibility with the “historic” neighborhood of 1888, preservation of land and a recognition that one should not separate the historic hospital building from the land and the scale of the project being on par with the Barnyard, 90,000 sq. ft. on 3.4 acres. During the HRRB’s deliberations, the Chairman stated that their subcommittee had accomplished a preliminary review of the project, found the project consistent with the Secretary of Interior Standards and was supportive of the project. Concerns about the “historic landscaping” were voiced and later incorporated into a Motion. Subsequently, the HRRB voted unanimously to recommend approval of the project to the Planning Commission.

I have never attended a county meeting of any kind and will not be able to attend this meeting of the historic board. I ask you to tell us what happened, what was decided, etc. and what are the next county meetings on the Liedig project. When will the staff report and EIR be available for public viewing? Thank you!
