Carmel Art Association Presents GROUP SHOW: FOR THE LOVE OF ART – HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS JURIED SHOW AND GALLERY SHOWCASE: HELENE GOLDSTEIN & MICHIE LONG

Carmel Art Association Mission Statement:
The Association exists to provide its members with a permanent art gallery, to advance knowledge of, and interest in the arts, and to create a spirit of cooperation and fellowship among artists and the community.

A Proud Heritage:
The legendary Carmel Art Association was formed on August 8, 1927 by a small group of artists who gathered at “Gray Gables,” the modest home/studio of Josephine Culbertson and Ida Johnson at the corner of Seventh and Lincoln in Carmel-by-the-Sea. These nineteen “pioneers”—who grew up in the 19th century and individually found their respective paths to Carmel from all corners of the world—each desired a greater sense of community, a spirit of collaboration, and a place to show their work. Before the meeting concluded, they had established an association with a mission “to advance art and cooperation among artists, secure a permanent exhibition space, and promote greater fellowship between artists and the public.”

GALLERY SHOWCASE: HELENE GOLDSTEIN & MICHIE LONG
Thursday, April 3 – Tuesday, May 6

Helene Goldstein exhibits paintings expressing “her interest in color--the richness and purity that comes forth when layers of intense color are applied so that they sparkle through one another. The effect is reminiscent of stained glass, with a translucent glow softened by overlays of dry-brush work. Her still life florals are all imaginary, heroic flowers, invented for purposes of design, emotion, and color interplay.” View thirteen oil painting images including “Blue Flowers,” “Flamingo,” Flowers In The Rain,” “Sunburst Flower,” “Shades of Pink,” “High Sailing II,” “Lavendar Pink,” “True Blue,” “Sails In The Storm II,” “Reaching Up,” “Blue Hearts,” “Lilly” and “Sheltering Trees.”

Michie Long exhibits “new large-scale oil paintings. Long's figurative work draws from mythical and/or psychological themes, but with composition being in the forefront of his approach to his pieces.” "My major concern is composition: the lights and darks, overlapping planes, and variations of color, value and shapes."  View thirteen oil painting images, including “Untitled,” “Bird Island, Point Lobos,” “Jutting Rock, Point Lobos,” “Moonlite Waves,” “Lummi Island Puget Sound I,” “Lummi Island Puget Sound,” “Lummi Island Puget Sound III,” “Lummi Island Puget Sound II,” “Bird Rock Pebble Beach,” “Early Morning,” “Four Sisters,” “Leisurely She Sat” and “The Time Passed So Sweetly.”

Opening Reception: Saturday, April 5, 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M.
