CONTROVERSY: Forest Theatre Proposed Renovations

ABSTRACT:  In the context of the controversy generated by the proposed renovations of the Forest Theatre, the Americans with Disabilities Act Title II discrimination complaint filed with the U. S. Department of Justice against the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea’s renovations of the Forest Theatre by Ken Cusson and the “terraced” aisles as suggested by theatre architect Richard McCann (R.F. McCann & Company, Architects), why didn’t the City resume consideration of the renovation of the Forest Theatre in 2014 by conducting public hearings on the Forest Theatre Schematic Design prepared by Richard McCann and the FOREST THEATER RENOVATION PHASING AND CONCEPT COST PLAN, September 8, 2009, prepared by William J. 8. ORDERS OF COUNCIL
Item 8.F Forest Theater: 1) Consideration of Receipt of a Donation in the amount of $10,000 to add an alternative to the bid package regarding “terracing”; 2) If donation is accepted, authorize amendment to the CAW contract for extra work related to the “terracing” alternative.
Recommendation: If donation is accepted, authorize the City Administrator to sign an amendment to the Cody Anderson Wasney Contract to add an alternate for “terracing” at Forest Theater.
