The New Founders America Needs | Honestly with Bari Weiss
To be a Founder in 21st century America means:
- To reject the politics of resentment and grievance and recognize our privilege, being an American in America. Embrace gratitude
- To defend the rule of law
- To defend freedom of speech; without free speech there is no truth or innovation. Refuse compelled speech i.e. untruths
- To break addiction to prestige; “worship God more than Yale”
- To reject moral relativism, ex. some cultures are better than other cultures
- To defend “witches;” embrace integrity and credibility
- To use your own eyes and ears, senses, to decipher fact from fiction, the truth
- To refuse to submit relationships, friendships to political litmus tests
- To resist nihilism on the left and the right; does not mean killing what you hate, rather saving what you love
- To build new things ex. a new university; “Building is a
political philosophy” (Katherine Boyle, Common Sense)
