LAW OFFICES OF NEIL L. SHAPIRO: ‘Dear Ms. Theis: Since before the November election and continuing to the present time, you have told people that the only reason that Royal Calkins prevailed in his Public Records Act action against the City is that I am a close friend of the Hon. Robert A. O'Farrell. That statement is both false and defamatory. The purpose of this letter is to suggest that you cease making it or any other that is based on falsehoods and that impugns the character and reputation of its subjects.”’

ABSTRACT: In an e-mail communication to Carrie Theis, City Council Member, dated December 15, 2018, attorney Neil L. Shapiro, LAW OFFICES OF NEIL L. SHAPIRO, stated, in part, “Since before the November election and continuing to the present time, you have told people that the only reason that Royal Calkins prevailed in his Public Records Act action against the City is that I am a close friend of the Hon. Robert A. O'Farrell. That statement is both false and defamatory. The purpose of this letter is to suggest that you cease making it or any other that is based on falsehoods and that impugns the character and reputation of its subjects.”
“I hope that you understand that your statement was and is legally actionable. If you do the proper thing and cease repeating the statement, the issue will end here. If you do not, I will take formal steps to stop you from damaging the reputations of decent people, and to provide redress to those harmed by your unfortunate and careless action.”

INFORMATION REQUESTED  I am going to revisit this request from a few months ago, now that circumstances have changed—at the time I originally filed, the report I was seeking concerned an elected official. Given that the subject of that report is no longer an elected official, I believe the record described below should no longer be exempted under the California Public Records Act. A report was provided to the city of Carmel regarding allegations of sexual harassment by the former mayor, the findings of which were discussed at a special meeting on March 7. The city attorney announced at that meeting that the report itself would not be released based on attorney-client privilege. However, it is our belief that the report is a public record.

Carmel Art Association Presents YOUTH COMPETITION/EXHIBITION, GALLERY SHOWCASE ‘ANGELS AND FLOWERS’ HELENE GOLDSTEIN AND MICHIE LONG, VALENTINE WORKSHOP & NEW MEMBER JURY PROCESS

Mission Statement:
The Association exists to provide its members with a permanent art gallery, to advance knowledge of, and interest in the arts, and to create a spirit of cooperation and fellowship among artists and the community.

A Proud Heritage:
The legendary Carmel Art Association was formed on August 8, 1927 by a small group of artists who gathered at “Gray Gables,” the modest home/studio of Josephine Culbertson and Ida Johnson at the corner of Seventh and Lincoln in Carmel-by-the-Sea. These nineteen “pioneers”—who grew up in the 19th century and individually found their respective paths to Carmel from all corners of the world—each desired a greater sense of community, a spirit of collaboration, and a place to show their work. Before the meeting concluded, they had established an association with a mission “to advance art and cooperation among artists, secure a permanent exhibition space, and promote greater fellowship between artists and the public.”
