Victoria Beach, AIA for AIArchitect, wrote about “ethics” in AIAPractice, An Ethical Inquiry, Part 1 (August 2, 2013), An Ethical Inquiry, Part 2 (September 3, 2013) and An Ethical Inquiry, Part 3 (September 15, 2013). Commenting on the aforementioned essay An Ethical Inquiry, Part 3, David Greusel, Convergence Design Founding Principal, stated in “Aesthetics are Ethics”, CONVERGENCE DESIGN, October 25, 2013, Victoria Beach, AIA, “asserts that architects’ primary moral authority (and responsibility) is aesthetic, not public safety,” “aesthetics is inextricably linked to ethics, morality, goodness, and the way things ought to be. And that these are where the architect’s highest responsibility lies.” If “aesthetics are ethics” in the profession of architecture, then certainly the issues on the PETITION TO TERMINATION THE CURRENT CITY ADMINISTRATOR, specifically “a lack of transparency,” “terminations or resignations” “splitting of contracts,” lawsuits, et cetera, are “ethics” in city government worthy of our elected representatives’ attention, official deliberation and action. Did the City, specifically City Administrator Jason Stilwell and Administrative Services Director Susan Paul, treat IT Manager Steve McInchak ethically in the context of his claims in his VERIFIED PETITION FOR WRIT OF MANDAMUS (CODE OF CIVIL PROCEDURE SECTION 1085) AND COMPLAINT FOR DECLARATORY JUDGMENT, BREACH OF CONTRACT, DEFAMATION AND INTENTIONAL AND NEGLIGENT INFLICTION OF EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, Steven Mclnchak, Petitioner/Plaintiff v. City of Carmel-by-the-Sea, and Does 1 through 50, inclusive, Respondents/Defendants (Case No. M128062)? Did the City, specifically City Administrator Jason Stilwell and Administrative Services Director Susan Paul, treat former Building Official John Hanson ethically in the context of his claims in his COMPLAINT, JOHN HANSON, Plaintiff, v. CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA and DOES 1 through 100, Defendants (Case No. M128436)? Have Mayor Jason Burnett and Mayor Pro Tem Victoria Beach acted ethically when they were in a position to place the PETITION TO TERMINATION THE CURRENT CITY ADMINISTRATOR on a City Council Agenda, specifically the City Council Agenda Closed Session and Special Meeting Thursday, August 14, 2014 and/or City Council Special Meeting Agenda, Monday, August 25, 2014 and failed to place it on an agenda for discussion, deliberation and action? Have Mayor Jason Burnett, Mayor Pro Tem Victoria Beach, City Council Members Ken Talmage, Carrie Theis and Steve Dallas acted ethically by not honestly and directly confronting all the issues raised on the PETITION TO TERMINATION THE CURRENT CITY ADMINISTRATOR? Is the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea a community of ethical citizens by virtue of its elected representatives on the city council not taking the concerns of their constituents seriously, and arguably acting unethically?

UPDATE: “Citing expert disagreement over the potential impact of California American Water's proposed desalination slant test well program on an already seawater-contaminated groundwater basin, the Marina City Council” “voted 3-2 to deny Cal Am's bid for the proposed two-year test well project at the Cemex sand mining plant in north Marina,” according to reporting in The Monterey County Herald. And “An appeal to the state Coastal Commission of Wednesday's council decision is expected, which could further delay Cal Am's proposed desal project.”

Carmel Art Association Mission Statement:
The Association exists to provide its members with a permanent art gallery, to advance knowledge of, and interest in the arts, and to create a spirit of cooperation and fellowship among artists and the community.

A Proud Heritage:

The legendary Carmel Art Association was formed on August 8, 1927 by a small group of artists who gathered at “Gray Gables,” the modest home/studio of Josephine Culbertson and Ida Johnson at the corner of Seventh and Lincoln in Carmel-by-the-Sea. These nineteen “pioneers”—who grew up in the 19th century and individually found their respective paths to Carmel from all corners of the world—each desired a greater sense of community, a spirit of collaboration, and a place to show their work. Before the meeting concluded, they had established an association with a mission “to advance art and cooperation among artists, secure a permanent exhibition space, and promote greater fellowship between artists and the public.”
