ABSTRACT: IN THE COURT OF APPEAL OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA FIRST APPELLATE DISTRICT DIVISION ONE, Justice James M. Humes, First Appellate District of the California Court of Appeal, wrote the opinion with concurrence by Kathleen M. Banke, Associate Justice, Court of Appeal First District, Division One and Sandra Lynn Margulies, Associate Justice, in CALIFORNIA-AMERICAN WATER COMPANY, Plaintiff and Respondent, v. MARINA COAST WATER DISTRICT, Defendant and Appellant; MONTEREY COUNTY WATER RESOURCES AGENCY, Defendant and Respondent, filed December 15, 2017. DISPOSITION The trial court’s orders are affirmed. “This consolidated appeal challenges trial court orders requiring appellant Marina Coast Water District (Marina) to pay attorney fees incurred by respondents California-American Water Company (California-American) and Monterey County Water Resources Agency (Monterey) after respondents successfully argued that contracts between the parties were void. Marina argues that respondents are not entitled to fees under Civil Code section 1717 (section 1717) because the underlying contracts that were the basis for the fees were declared void. We reject the argument and affirm.” The Published Opinion document copy is embedded.

Harrison Memorial Library: A Three-Star LJ Index of Public Library Service America Star Library

ABSTRACT: In 2017, the results of the tenth edition of the LJ Index of Public Library Service, were announced. 7,409 U.S. public libraries qualified to be rated in the Index, including 259 Star Libraries, each receiving three-Star, four-Star, or five-Star designations based on FY 2015 data of Circulation (per capita), eCirculation (per capita), Visits (per capita), Program Attendance (per capita) and Public Internet Computer Use (per capita) by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). In California, thirteen libraries were designated “Star Libraries.”

Four Stars (8): Berkeley Public Library, Santa Clara County Library, Cerritos Public Library, Alpine County Library/Archives, Palo Alto City Library, Redwood City Public Library, San Francisco Public Library, San Mateo County Library
