2012 COMMENT POLICY

UPDATE: Members of the public will continue to be afforded the choice of submitting comments by “Google Account,” “OpenID,” “Name/URL” and “Anonymous.” In the context of a mayor and city council members who do not take responsibility for their actions, in the context of a city government with a record of promulgating misleading and inaccurate information to the courts, the media and the public, there is a need for a public space where members of the public can communicate the truth and their concerns without fear of retaliation from those individuals in positions of power.

Happy New Year!

ONLY SUBSTANTIVE COMMENTS AND OPINIONS BASED ON FACT AND SUPPORTED BY EVIDENCE WILL BE PUBLISHED.

NOTE: During the 2012 Municipal Election cycle, comments on issues, ideas and candidates’ visions for Carmel-by-the-Sea are encouraged.

Jason Burnett and I have pledged to each other that we will run a campaign of positive attitude, each pointing out our own strengths, views and visions for Carmel’s future. Any negative personal attacks or comments toward either candidate would be disappointing to both of us. We both are family men with somewhat different approaches to our lives, but we have mutual respect for each other. Mr. Burnett and I only have the best interests of Carmel in mind, and whatever side wins, we will continue to live, work and play here. Posted by Rich Pepe.

Is the Carmel campaign really going to be about the issues that matter or is it going to be a popularity contest? Is the media going to do their job and vet all the candidates. For example, is the media or anyone going to ask Ken Talmage why he thinks he deserves to be reelected to another term? Will reporters ask him about his role in the hostile workplace environment which led to a $600,000 settlement with a former city employee? Will they ask Ken about his furtherance of the lie that the other settlements to former city employees were "golden handshakes" when they were really settlements for claims of harassment, discrimination and retaliation? Are the candidates' campaigns going to be about substance or typical PR style with a lot of platitudes of keeping Carmel, Carmel without much practical substance?
