The lesson of this “reconsideration” or potential flip-flop is the Planning Commission should be restored to 7 members. Again, Mayor Sue McCloud thought she knew better and decreased planning commission membership from 7 members to 5 members and created the Design Review Board with 5 members, when experienced planners advocated for design review to be accomplished by a subcommittee of the planning commission (PC). All the while saying she was doing the above because there were not enough people wanting to serve. Of course, 7 (PC) to 5 (PC) + 5 (DRB) =10 represents more people serving on two boards, not less. It is time for sanity to be restored to City Hall and Commissions/Boards. It is also time for a strong city administrator to advise commissioners on their proper duties and responsibilities and not let some commissioners go rogue with their own personal prejudices and misinterpretations of guidelines, etc.
