Advice to Rich Pépe going into the candidates forums:
Be on the offense. Emphasis your commitment to Carmel. You will be here to take responsibility for your administration's actions years from now.
Emphasis your managerial experience in Carmel for 30 plus years. You have met a payroll, etc., you understand budgets, etc.
Run a positive campaign on the issues, but do not be afraid to go "jersey" when you absolutely have to.
Emphasis your opponents unpredictability. Candidate Jason Burnett has one position one day only to have another position another day and supports one thing one day and against that thing the next day depending on his audience or polling or whim.
Raise above the mean spirited personal attacks on you by Jason Burnett supporters.
Many of Jason Burnett's supporters blindly support Jason Burnett no matter his positions on the issues. He listens but he is always right. They are willing serfs to a pedestrian-friendly, bicycle-riding utopian vision of Carmel. They recite rote phrases with conviction. They believe in government supremacy.
Many of Rich Pépe supporters believe in the individual and believe government exists to serve the people and not the other way around. He listens and is open-minded and open to other views and suggestions and will change his mind.
Slam dunk. Rich Pépe for Mayor!
Pretty much all candidates agreeing on all the issues makes for a pretty boring campaign. Doesn't Carmel have any outliers willing to stir up a little controversy for the sake of a campaign beyond slogans?
