Victoria Beach would be a stronger, worthier candidate for city council if she applied her background in ethics to Carmel’s city government. To wit, does she agree or disagree with attorney Michael Stamp’s assessment that “This is no way to run a city. As long as the city and The Pine Cone blame the victim, the city will be at risk?” Does she agree or disagree that it is a top priority of the new city administrator to restore public trust in Carmel’s city government? Does she agree or disagree that an ethical city council would
acknowledge and explain settlements totaling in excess of $1,000,000 to city employees for claims of “hostile work environment,” Sex-Based Discrimination in Employment, Age-Based Discrimination in Employment, Sexual Harassment in Employment, Failure to Take All Reasonable Steps to Prevent Sexual Harassment from Occurring, Failure to Take All Reasonable Steps to Prevent Discrimination and Harassment Based on Age from Occurring and Retaliation in Violation of Law between 2003 and 2010? And finally, does she believe Carmel’s city government is corrupt? If she believes it is corrupt, what would she do as a city council member to end the corruption and make City Hall a place Carmelites can be genuinely proud of?

I intend to give Victoria Beach a chance to bring her strong ethical background to the Council. I am voting for Victoria.

Not only for that reason, but also because she is smart, she is the only woman campaigning and she is running laps around Leverone and Profeta both. She has the energy to bring her work ethic to the council and that's what we need. We don't need a couple of old guys just coming to pontificate.

She will be a hard worker, while the other two either have a sense of entitlement to the job or is too old to be running for council considering age.

Candidate Victoria Beach pledges to 1) commit to preserving and enhancing the village character we all enjoy as we walk through our downtown, neighborhoods, and parks. Okay. Preserve parks. Consistent with the General Plan/LCP. Go far so good. Saying it is good. Doing it is better. I will hold Ms. Beach to voting not to sell Flanders Mansion in the midst of Mission Trail Nature Preserve and preserve the integrity of the park and the city's LCP if elected. No exceptions, especially from a past planning commissioner. But Ken Talmage was once a planning commissioner and he voted to sell Flanders Mansion. Maybe Mr. Talmage will wise up and follow Ms. Beach's lead if we can trust Ms. Beach.

No new taxes. Stop driving people away with the imposition of progressive taxes and "temporary" taxes. Parking meters are tacky and inconsistent with welcoming people to the village and encouraging them to shop and dine. Cut spending. Village atmosphere has severly eroded with bright, blaring, indiscriminate lighting and excessive wattage that planning seems to endorse rather than correct? How is the lighting of suburban strip mall consistent with a village urban forest atmosphere? I'll take a chance and vote for Beach IF she cuts and budget and makes Carmel more appealing for people to want to come here and spend money. Draw people here, don't drive them away with more taxes, fees and fines.
