Carmelites, now is the time to make our voices heard! There should be an opportunity for public comment tomorrow afternoon prior to the start of the Closed Session agenda. Spread the word!

Well, well Rich Guillen has resigned and will retire soon. Mayor Sue McCloud might as well join him in resigning and retiring too. She brought this all on Carmel, she is the one who tapped Guillen and pushed for him to become permanent city administrator, she is the one who said "just take it out of town," she and her rubberstamp council were the ones to adopt a policy of prematurely ending the careers of senior city employees and gutting the city employment ranks, she and Paula Hazdovac wrote the commentary defending Guillen just a couple of months ago and she has been the de facto city administrator for ten long years with Rich Guillen just a figure head carrying out her orders. Let's not make the same mistakes and go along with that which we should have stood up against a long time ago. "Happy to move on" sounds nice, but to really move on, we need to examine how it came to pass that we tolerated and at times enabled or condoned all the city actions which have led up to the resignation of Rich Guillen. It will not be pretty, but it is necessary if we are really serious about moving on in a positive and productive direction.
A cruel realization: Throughout this long ordeal, Carmelites have been calling for greater openness and transparency in our city government, only to be met with a city council which chose to do an out-of-public view “resignation” and “retirement” deal with Rich Guillen rather than chose to be directly accountable to their constituents, go on the public record and vote to terminate Rich Guillen from city employment.
